Botox® is a natural purified protein that relaxes the muscles responsible for producing the lines which appear with the ageing process. It gives the patient a relaxed expression which helps achieve the natural look that people want.
How does Botox® work?
A tiny amount of Botox® is injected into specific muscles and blocks impulses from the nerve which make them contract. Because the muscles relax, undesirable frown lines and wrinkles are significantly reduced. This treatment only takes 10 minutes and most people return to normal activities immediately afterwards. Botox® should only be injected by an experienced practitioner who can make sure that the correct amount is injected in precisely the right places. In this way the desired result with a natural look is achieved.
Is this treatment safe?
Botox® has an excellent safety profile. It has been used for more than 10 years in aesthetic practice and for more than 20 years in neurology and ophthalmology. There are many publications supporting its use. It has a long and impressive safety record. Side effects, if they occur, are usually temporary and mild to moderate. By choosing an experienced doctor you will minimise the risk of side effects.
How long will the effect last?
Within days of treatment you should start to see an improvement in your lines. The results can last up to 4 months, but it is necessary to bear in mind that this might vary from patient to patient. With repeated treatment, the result can last longer, but the treatment should not be repeated more than three times a year.
Dermapen Advanced Skin Needing
This new and exciting technology for advanced medical skin needling, is proving very popular for a variety of reasons. Dr Webster is extremely excited about this new method of skin needling as he is seeing good results with skin rejuvenation and acne scarring.
Traditional skin needling is done by manually using a roller to create superficial micro channels into the skin. This method involved using a ‘ploughing’ technique which could, if not used properly, cause micro tearing in the skin.
Dermapen, uses an electronic technique with multiple needles that vertically pierce the skin on a far deeper level than with the rolling technique. This enhances rejuvenation results and is safer because it is easier to control the device . The automatic vibrating function of the Dermapen increases the effectiveness of treatment by increasing absorption of products, whilst reducing pain & discomfort.
Using fractional technology, micro channels are created deep into the skin, stimulating growth factors but also allowing for deep penetration of topical growth factors and antioxidants serums. These help to enhance the skin’s natural collagen reproduction.
This new and innovative medical needling treatment rejuvenates not only the skin on the face, neck and décolleté but is also effective for scarring, including acne scars and (still to be tested – stretch marks). It reduces large pores and is wonderful for the barcode lines around the mouth and the deep lines on the chest/décolleté).
- Skin Tightening
- Natural Collagen Induction
- Lifting and Rejuvenation
- Reduces wrinkles and fine lines
- Improves stretch marks
- Hair Regeneration

Dr Webster is a pioneer for skin laser surgery in South Africa and makes use of the following 4 lasers:
- Intense Pulse Light (Ellipse®)
- Mosaic® Fractional Resurfacing
- Candela® Carbon Dioxide Fractional Laser Resurfacing
- Alexandrite Hair Removal Laser
Each patient would have to be assessed by means of an initial consultation to decide which laser would be suitable for their treatment.
1. Intense Pulse Light (Ellipse®)
Intense Pulsed Light is a very effective treatment for fine lines, brown age spots, freckles, broken veins and enlarged pores. In the past each of these conditions required different laser treatments and these often resulted in some inconvenience and discomfort during and after the procedure. Often patients were required to take time off work or from their daily lives i.e. downtime.
IPL treats the imperfections of the skin in the epidermis – the top layer of skin – so that the brown sunspots and freckles peel off approximately 7-10 days after treatment. The IPL heats up the collagen resulting in tighter, firmer and smoother skin.
As one uses lower energies of Intense Pulsed Light, it is a very safe procedure with no downtime and minimal risk of complications.
A series of treatment sessions with IPL is recommended. The number of treatments will depend on the amount of sun damage you have on your skin. By dividing the sessions up into several treatments the procedure provides gradual improvement with a very low risk.
An assessment of your skin and how suitable it is for IPL treatments, the number of treatments required and the cost thereof can be discussed with Dr Webster at your consultation.
2. Mosaic® Fractional Resurfacing
The Mosaic® laser is the latest state-of-the-art fractional non-ablative laser.
Previous ablative lasers would vaporize the whole top layer of your skin, leaving a raw painful area. This laser produces multiple, deep columns of laser that penetrate down to the deep dermis while sparing the surrounding tissues. The skin’s upper most layers act as a protective dressing so healing time is reduced. These deep laser beams heat up and remodel the collagen and the outcome produces a more natural look and uniform skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime.
This laser will help for solar lentigines (brown sunspots), fine lines, acne scars and will tighten the skin to a certain degree. It can be used on the face, neck and chest quite safely.
The Mosaic® laser delivers excellent results such as reduced pore size, overall improved laxity and skin tone. There will be a noticeable improvement immediately after each treatment and this will continue over the coming months. The skin will look brighter and feel regenerated.
The treatment is performed with the use of local anaesthetic cream and the pain is minimal. It takes approximately 45 minutes to perform a full face treatment and afterwards the skin will look slightly pink and possibly a little swollen for a day or two. The Mosaic® laser is one of the safest and most reliable resurfacing laser systems available.
On average a patient would require at least 3 to 6 treatments spaced approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart. Dr Webster will do an assessment of your skin and will recommend the number of treatments required and the cost thereof at your consultation.

Skin Rejuvenation Treatments – Chemical Peels
Chemical peels help to remove a dry, dull build-up of dead skin cells on the face, neck, décolleté, chest and hands. They help to smooth the texture, even the skin tone and produce a healthy, polished and youthful glow on the skin. For the best results, it is recommended that you have a series of 4-6 peels. Peels are the best way to kick-start your anti-ageing treatment plan if you feel you need a makeover – they are generally not too costly and used in conjunction with anti-ageing products, the results can be quite spectacular.
There will be an improvement to fine lines, dark spots, skin clarity and mild to moderate acne . All prospective candidates would need to be assessed by Dr Webster before commencing any treatment. Chemical peels are often done in conjunction with lasers on the face or chest.

Scelerotherapy for Spider Leg Veins
Varicose veins are permanently dilated veins. These are predisposed to by hereditary factors, pregnancy, severe trauma to the legs, long periods of standing or even heat and tight girdles i.e. these are the effects of back pressure on the weak walls of the venous blood vessels.
Surgical procedures are used to remove the prominent thick venous channels. These procedures have no beneficial effect on the small threadlike red and blue superficial spider veins.
Sclerosant injection treatment destroys the incompetent vein in 1-4 months while blood circulation continues through the normal channels. Sclerosant injection treatment is undertaken from the thighs downwards and may result in a very temporary burning pain for the duration of each injection but this settles rapidly. The cosmetic appearance of the leg tends to be improved only from 3 to 4 weeks following treatment. Treatment sessions take from 15-60 minutes, depending on the area to be treated and normal activities can be resumed directly afterwards.
Side effects of the treatment include a burning sensation with the introduction of the sclerosing solution. This is not experienced by all patients but the sensation disappears almost as soon as the injection is discontinued. Minor bruising at the site of the injection can occur; it is not serious and will disappear in 3 to 4 weeks should it have occurred.
Tender red inflammation of the veins may occur occasionally. Very rarely, slight brown staining may occur in the line of the vein. This pigmentation can last for many months until it fades.
If bandaging has been recommended, pay attention to the frequency of the application. Wearing shoes with relatively low heels promotes the action of the venous pump in the calf to avoid recurrence of fresh veins. Tight belts and girdles should not be worn.
- The first session of treatment includes an explanation of the sclerosant treatment, a general examination of your legs, followed by an actual treatment with a sclerosant solution.
- The usual appointment time is 1 hour and the area covered in this time will depend on the extent of the veins requiring treatment. Usually a large area can be covered in an hour.
- Treatments need to be at monthly intervals until clearance which could anything from 1 to 4 treatments.
- Do not shave your legs within two days prior to the sclerotherapy treatment;
- Avoid very hot baths immediately before and after treatments for 3 days;
- Do not sunbathe after treatment and use a good sunscreen with efficient sun blockers thereafter until bruising has gone (approximately 5 days).
- Avoid aerobic exercises (cardio vascular) for 3 days after treatment.
- Apply Arnica cream 1 to 2 times per day until bruising has disappeared.

Ultherapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment using ultrasound energy which produces sound waves to firm, tighten and lift the skin without any trauma.
Focused ultrasound energy heats the skin tissue on a deep level and this causes a natural and regenerative response which encourages weak collagen to strengthen, along with the growth of new collagen which tightens and lifts the skin.
The results are not immediately apparent because the repair and rebuilding of collagen takes time but the results will gradually become noticeable anywhere between three to twelve months. Often more than one treatment is required and each time you undergo a treatment, you are building upon the previous treatment and helping to tone and lift and to prevent future sagging.
Ultherapy is used for deep tissue regeneration and there is very little or no downtime after the treatment.
- Cheek and neck laxity
- Sagging on face – mid-cheek
- Nasolabial folds
- Loss of jawline definition (jowls)
- Sagging under the chin

Visia Complexion Analysis
Visia’s advanced technology has transformed medical cosmetic practices worldwide, by providing meaningful on-screen and printed skin analysis.
Visia is able to help evaluate treatment plans for patients and to track treatment progress. This increases patient motivation and compliance as they are able to monitor their progress, their expectations and the outcomes of their chosen treatments and products.
Dr Webster has purchased the latest Visia Complexion Analysis system with the Ultra Violet (UV) photo mode which provides the most complete data set available for sun damage assessment.
Visia Complexion Analysis is able to assess the following:
- Photo Damage (sun damage)
- UV Spots
- Vascularity (broken veins & redness)
- Skin Texture & skin tone
- Pore Size
- Porphyrins (bacteria that causes acne)
Visia consultations generally last about 45 minute – this includes the analysis scan and the post-scan discussion about the various treatments and options should you have any of the above skin conditions. Your data and images will be stored on a database for future consultations.
Photo-damage (sun damage) is generally not difficult to assess with the naked eye but with the Visia Complexion Analysis, patients are able to see what lies below the outer layer of the skin and they find this a rather fascinating exercise!
Visia Complexion Analysis helps patients to understand their skin conditions better and to play a role in deciding what they would like in a treatment plan. They are given an opportunity to discuss their treatment plan openly and honestly. We respect the right of the patient not to be pressurised and we are always happy to give suggestions and to educate the patient to make their own decision.
Open, honest communication with patients is a hallmark of Dr Webster’s Dermatology practice – patient’s concerns and their expectations are respected at all times.
Contact us for a FREE skin analysis and to discuss an integrated skin care regiment with our experienced skin therapist. Dr Webster reviews all images and reports together your integrated treatment plan, ahead of any suggested treatments.
